They love the drama

Let me start off by saying that one of the major perks of living with boys is that there is hardly any drama. Girls in general are much more catty and vicious than guys. We take everything personally and know how to hold a grudge. We are experts are the whole "passive aggressiveness." In my experience, guys are much more straightforward and blunt. That being said, living with boys I've learned that although theymay not be as involved in the drama girls are, that doesn't mean they don't love it.

I've had walked in on my housemates watching thing like "Keeping up with the Kardashians" or "Teen Mon" before. They sit around making fun of what's going on, but really they're hooked. It's funny because it's shows I don't even watch. The other day, however, the funniest thing happened. We were all eating breakfast in the living room and someone (I forget who) was scrolling the channels. This someone stopped on "Battle of the Exes" on MTV. If you haven't heard of this show - don't worry - I hadn't either. But apparently everyone in my house had. It's a show where people who have "hooked up" on other MTV shows get paired as a team and have to compete in various challenges. They all live in a house together, which is obviously full of drama. We all sat and watched together. Not only did we sit and watch it together, but the guys explained who everyone was and who had already hooked up again and what not! They knew everything. They may be in much drama - but they sure do love to watch it unfold.

Kind of a silly side story - Spencer had to leave early to go to class before the episode ended, and this is our conversation while he was in class:

He was really into the show.

Isn't he cute?

Continuing on this morning's post, here's a few photos I've snapped of Spencer in the past month . . .

In class wearing a giant sweater and flip flops.
Spencer on his first day of work!

Just playing Call of Duty

After practice enjoying a cup of coffee.

Sometimes, you just wanna kill 'em

I am with my housemates an insane amount of time during the day. We wake up at 5:30 together to go to practice on the water together for 3-4 hours. We then all make and eat breakfast together. After our classes we have a second practice on land from 5-6:30ish. After that we go home and usually eat dinner together. From that point on we're together until its time for bed - then we do it all over again. It's no surprise then that sometimes, I want to kill them. I literally want to throw my heaviest books at their face. Or possibly strangle them. Obviously I don't actually want them to die, just suffer for a tiny bit.

The other day this was Spencer. If there were ever any two people who were going to fight in the house, it would be me and him. Part of my job at practice is to correct technique/form and to relay to the guys in the boat what it is exactly our coach expects and is looking for. Now let me preface this story by saying that Spencer is a good rower. He is our stroke seat and is by all means one of the best rowers on our team. It just so happens that this day he was messing up. It was obvious he was "breaking his outside wrist" or "feathering his blade with the outside hand" (I apologize for the rower talk). Our coach noticed it first and told him to correct it. No change. Again he tells him to stop breaking the wrist. No change. Finally he tells me to tell Spencer, to which I get the response "I'M NOT BREAKING MY WRIST." Instantly the next stroke is perfect.

When we get up to the boathouse after practice, Spencer is all grumpy and whatnot because I yelled at him. He then tries to explain to me that he wasn't "feathering with his outside hand" he was just "breaking his outside wrist" - WHICH IS THE SAME THING. I basically ask the question to the entire team whether or not they agree with Spencer or me, and they all agree with me. Spencer doesn't talk to me for the rest of the day. In fact, he doesn't talk to anyone for the rest of the day because he's so freaking stubborn. This eventually resulted in an all out shouting match at the end of the day. Like I said, sometimes, you just wanna kill 'em.

(and perhaps they want to kill me).

An addiction, an obsession.

I grew up a pretty big nerd. I was forced to get glasses by age seven and was put in enrichment classes. I thought reading was the coolest thing ever - to the point where if I was in trouble, my punishment was to have my books taken away. My dad's kind of a computer nerd and, therefore, the trait was passed on the me. I remember sitting on his lap as a little girl asking how to play "Rome Total War" or "Civilization." I was the girl in class who always volunteered to read first in class. Despite all this nerdy-ness, I never really picked up an affinity for video games.

In my house there are 5 televisions, two of which are in the living room. There is also an X-box 360, a Playstation 3, and a Nintendo 64. The guys' favorite game to play? Without doubt, Call of Duty Modern Warfare. My room is closest to the living room, and most nights I fall asleep to the sounds of guns firing, explosions, and "UAV online" or "We are losing B." I started off just watching Spencer play (since it's his game). I just kept thinking "How is this possibly fun and how can you play for so long?!" Then Dan got addicted. Watching them play I thought, "This is so easy! How could you stay entertained?!" Then I took a turn.

The game is a drug. It's more addicting than anything I've ever done before. The first time I played I only got 1 kill and died 28 times. I thought, "I can do better than this, just one more game." Now I can't get enough. It literally gets my adrenaline going, especially since I'm just naturally a competitive person. I started off just playing occasionally. If I'd come home in the middle of the day and one of the guys was playing I'd ask, "Hey can I jump in?" But now it's much worse. Spencer taught me how to load the game myself. Sunday I woke up, turned on the X-box, and started to play while everyone else was still asleep. I've even changed the game into a verb so that when someone asks me what I'm doing I say "CODing." So girls, never again question how your boyfriend can play a video game for so long and not get bored.

Dan and Spencer CODing.
